Researcher II

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a highly motivated Researcher II to join our multi-disciplinary team in the Contreras-Galindo Laboratory. This role will perform an important task of the research group that investigates the function of repetitive areas of the human genome. The group has a special interest in molecular biology, cytogenetics and genomics of centromeres and telomeres. Special preference will be experience in molecular biology and microscopy. Our laboratory is investigating the structure and evolution of centromere sequences, the epigenetic interactions of chromatin factors that modulate centromere function on centromere sequences, and the role these elements play in chromosome segregation and genome instability in non-disjunction disorders, cancers, and fibrosis.

Postdoctoral Fellow (Cytogenetics)

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our multi-disciplinary team in the Contreras-Galindo Laboratory. This role will perform an important contribution of investigating the function of repetitive areas of the human genome. The group has a special interest in molecular biology, cytogenetics and genomics of centromeres and telomeres. Special preference will be experience in centromere and telomere biology, cytogenetics, chromosome analysis, and genome editing.

Our laboratory is investigating the structure and evolution of centromere sequences, the epigenetic interactions of chromatin factors that modulate centromere function on centromere sequences, and the role these elements play in chromosome segregation and genome instability in fibrotic disorders and cancer. Duties/Responsibilities As a member of our group, the candidate would be expected to be a leader, both intellectually and in the lab. The candidate would be expected to work on multiple aspects of one or more projects at any one time. This will include, but is not limited to, experimental design, implementation, and data collection as well as the analysis, dissemination of research data, manuscript publication. The individual would be expected to work independently but also to frequently collaborate with other lab members as well as scientists at other institutions. As an integral part of our research team, the candidate would be expected to help us to always maintain a safe and professional work environment, and to actively participate in regular group meetings. Please email contrerr@uab.edu your CV and 3 references if interested.

Postdoctoral Fellow (Stem Cell Biology)

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our multi-disciplinary team in the Contreras-Galindo Laboratory. This role will perform an important contribution of investigating the function of repetitive areas of the human genome. The group has a special interest in molecular biology, cytogenetics and genomics of centromeres and telomeres. Special preference will be experience with culture of stem cells and development of organoids.

Centromeres and Telomeres are structural units responsible for the correct segregation of chromosomes during cell division. Destabilization of centromere function results in chromosomal missegregation and instability, hallmarks of fibrosis, cancers, and birth defects.

Our laboratory is investigating the function of centromere and telomere sequences, the epigenetic interactions of chromatin factors, and the role these elements play in chromosome segregation and genome instability and the development of in non-disjunction disorders, cancers, and fibrosis.

The candidate would be expected to work on multiple aspects of one or more projects at any one time. This will include, but is not limited to, experimental design, implementation, and data collection as well as the analysis, dissemination of research data, manuscript publication, and grant writing. As an integral part of our research team, the candidate would be expected to help us to always maintain a safe and professional work environment, and to actively participate in regular group meetings.
